Westfield’s MacDougall; an Incredible Two-Sport Athlete

Ian MacDougall has embraced his role as an important member of two athletic teams at Westfield High School.

A longtime soccer player and starting goalkeeper, MacDougall began punting and kicking for the football team last year as a junior. After a successful first season — he led the Hoosier Crossroads Conference in punting at 39 yards per attempt — he decided to come back for his senior year.

Teacher’s voyage of discovery at sea is over, but the hubbub isn’t

Carmel — After her six-week stint in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Teacher at Sea program, Carmel Middle School seventh-grade science teacher Christine Hedge returned to the classroom last week.

But things aren’t back to normal yet.

Carmel soccer players help IU, Butler, Evansville

Indiana University, Butler and Evansville won men’s college soccer tournaments last weekend with major contributions from Carmel players.

But the state’s hottest player, also from Carmel, is Bradley’s Chris Cutshaw.

The senior forward ranks fifth in the nation with six goals in five games. He has led the Braves to a 4-0-1 record for their best start since 2002.

Event takes place over Labor Day weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The high school football season kicks off next week. Monday, the Indianapolis Colts held a press conference to announce they will play host to the Horseshoe Classic at Lucas Oil Stadium coming up on September 5.

Fishers Chamber Awards Scholarships

The Fishers Chamber of Commerce would like to announce the recipients of two $1500 Education Through Experience scholarships; Maria Lunik and Kara Rebholz. Both are seniors at Fishers High School and have accepted admission to a state university.

Lunik will attend Purdue University in the fall with a major in Environmental Science; Law. She is employed by Fionn MacCool’s Irish Pub & Restaurant in Fishers.

Carmel Quarterback Named Mr. Football

Quarterback Morgan Newton, a University of Kentucky recruit who led the Carmel Greyhounds to three consecutive Class 5A tournament finals and the 2007 championship, is Indiana’s Mr. Football for 2008.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Newton was a dual threat at Carmel, passing for 1,938 yards and 22 touchdowns and running for 1,664 yards and 26 touchdowns in his senior season.
