So locally what is the ‘buzz’ around Fishers businesses? In lieu of the stories we hear about business closures and job loss, the number of businesses that call Fishers home has increased from 1,734 in January of 2008 to 1,803 in December of 2008.
Research conducted by the Fishers Chamber of Commerce identified local business and industry breakdown by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. Almost 40% of all Fishers business fall into the Services category.
Some industry sectors have been impacted by the fourth quarter downturn, others recognized a shift in how they get their business.
Atlantic Relocation Systems’ Tom Fagan said the household moving business has been negatively affected by the economy.
However, they have seen increases in other types of business. He said there are more offices moving as a result of downsizing, forcing an increased demand for storage.
Lee Wenninger, owner of Express Employment Professionals, is focusing his business on helping clients manage short-term staff needs and plan for when the economy turns.
“We’re really focusing a lot of our effort on helping people prepare their recruiting and hiring plans for that turn, because when things pick up you want to be ready to take quick advantage of the opportunities that will be presented. We’re also providing more training to our clients to keep their current employees motivated and committed. As a company, we’ve made a conscious choice to focus on our goals rather than our risks, because goals are motivating and fun,” said Wenninger.
Businesses all over the country are adapting and positioning to have a successful year in 2009.
Adjusting to the downturn in the economy, Perpetual Technologies, Inc. (PTI) has purposefully reallocated resources and realigned business objectives in an effort to streamline and optimize operations.
“(This) expansion will help PTI increase services to existing and new clients across the nation, while keeping high-tech jobs right here in our community,” Ryan Stephens, President of PTI stated.
